Conditional Sentence

Conditional Sentence (Kalimat pengandian) adalah kalimat yang digunakan untuk menunjukkan sesuatu yang mungkin terjadi atau mungkin tidak terjadi bahkan tidak mungkin terjadi sesuai harapan. 

Conditional sentence terdiri dari dua bagian yaitu main clause(Induk kalimat) dan subordinate clause(anak kalimat). Subordinate clause menggunakan if clause(kalimat bersyarat yang harus dipenuhi atau terjadi agar main clause dapat terjadi.)

Conditional sentence terdiri dari dua jenis yaitu real conditional dan unreal conditional. Real conditional adalah condisi nyata sedang unreal condition adalah kondisi tidak nyata. 

Conditional sentences biasanya memiliki ciri-ciri sebagai berikut:

a. Menggunakan kata if dalam anak kalimat (subordinate clause) yang biasa kita sebut dengan if clause.

b. Menggunakan modal auxiliary, seperti will, can, may, must, would, could, might, etc yang terdapat pada pokok kalimat (main clause).

Ada beberapa tipe Conditional Sentence, yaitu: 

A. Type I: Future Conditional

Tipe ini menunjukkan kejadian yang diharapkan akan terjadi pada masa yang akan datang dan memungkinan untuk terjadi. (probable condition)

 Rumus: 

If + S + Verb (present), S + future tense

atau 

Subjek + future tense if + subjek +Verb (present)

Contoh: 

If your father goes home, he will give you a present.

If I get the best mark, I will buy a coffee for you.

If Ani and Ana be a winner, they will get a big trophy.

I will go home now if my mother call me.

The dog will be happy if it gets a big meat.

Nobody will not come if you come late. 

B. Type II: Present Conditional  

Tipe ini menyatakan kejadian yang diharapkan terjadi sekarang namun tidak terjadi. (Improbable condition)

If + S + Verb 2 / were + Objek + , + S + would + Verb1

atau

S + would + Verb1 + If + S + Verb 2 / were + Objek 

Catatan: to be yang digunakan pada if clause untuk semua objek adalah were.

Contoh:

If you drank the tea, you would be sick.

If Mr. Hendra were angry, he would not teach us.

If Yudi and Zakky did not play a game, they would study together.

The laptop would be shut down if I charged it.

He would not be happy if he got a good mark.

The cat would not hurt if the dog did not attack it. 

C. Type III: Past Conditional

Tipe ini menunjukkan peristiwa yang diharapkan terjadi pada masa lampau, tetapi tidak terjadi. (impossible condition)

Rumus:

If + S + Past Perfect +, S + Would have + Past participle

atau

Subject + Would have + Past participle + if + Subjek + Past Perfect + V3

Contoh:

If he had a money, he would bought  a new car.

If the bird had feeted, it would have been death.

If I had studied hard, I would have got a good mark.

I would not have got a bad mark if I had studied hard.

The car would have been dirty if it had kept in the garage.

Sony and Shinta would have arrived if  I had picked them up earlier.
